Chapter 2 – ACT AND REACT!Steps to protect youth in sports from abuse and violence
This part of the manual is developed to provide clear and specific steps that sports clubs should follow to create a safe sport environment for all young people wherever they participate and at whatever level, where good practices are established, and harmful practices are reduced.
What is the safeguarding and protection policy in sports?
Safeguarding refers to the actions we take to ensure ALL members are safe from harm when involved in our clubs and activities.
Protection is a set of activities that are required for SPECIFIC children /young people who are at risk of/or are suffering harm. (It is mostly referred to children groups, but it is applicable for young people as well).
These two perspectives are the basic important steps and directives which sport clubs can follow for internal commitment to ensuring a safe and positive environment for all young people. The commitment of the sport community should be organized with concrete steps and procedures; hence the policy of safeguarding and protection is the first step.
