Safeguarding officersEnsuring a safe sports environment
Guardians against violence in sports are now on duty! These Individuals who want to be on the lookout for violence in sports clubs will take the role of safeguarding officers of the guardians’ community. They are an important mechanism for keeping violence down and providing a secure space for everyone. Officers will have multiple roles in their communities and will be part of the broader network of Guardians which will include NGOs and sports clubs.
What do safeguarding officers do?FIVE ROLES OF SAFEGUARDING OFFICERS
Role number 1.Advocating for a safe environment
Our officers will have the task of advocating and actively fighting for a secure space for everyone when engaging in sports activities within clubs.
Role number 3.Create informative materials against violence
Officers would create short and informative materials that will be disseminated around to spread the project’s message and inform people about the dangers of violence in sports.
Role number 2.Promoting our cause
Safeguarding officers should also inform and raise awareness about the impact of sports-related violence in their community and why everyone should fight it.
Role number 4.Being there for everyone
Even when not on “active duty”, officers should be there as counselors and safe havens for victims of violence, helping them and their families to deal with their traumatic experiences and guiding them on a path of healing.
Role number 5.Implementing Guardians methodology in his/hers surroundings
All the skills and knowledge gained within the project “We the Guardians” are good in theory, but will make an impact only through real-life implementation! By implementing elements from our manual, the officer can achieve what is envisioned – a violence-free sport for young people.
